How is PTA tax calculated in Pakistan?

The calculator adds regulatory duty, sales tax, the mobile handset levy and applicable income tax for imported smartphones. It uses your entered USD value and exchange rate. Eligible personal baggage has a withholding exemption; non-ATL income tax is doubled. Basic customs duty and additional customs duty are treated as exempt for the covered Fifth Schedule smartphone entries.

Estimate = regulatory duty + sales tax on (device value in PKR + regulatory duty) + handset levy + applicable income tax. Sales tax is 18% for values up to US $500 and 25% above US $500. The calculator can add a 10% regularization fine for applicable CNIC cases when selected. The phone tables exclude fines. Courier fees, clearance charges and special cases are outside this estimate. Slab boundaries are interpreted as contiguous upper-bound ranges; official assessment takes precedence.

  • Regulatory duty — SRO 1064(I)/2026
  • Sales Tax Act, updated to 30 June 2026 — Ninth Schedule and section 2(46)
  • Customs Act Fifth Schedule 2026–27 — entries 99 and 100 and additional customs duty SRO 1063(I)/2026
  • Handset levy — Finance Act 2022, amended by the Finance Act 2026
  • Income Tax Ordinance — CBU slabs and personal-baggage exemption, with Finance Act 2026 amendments; Tax Year 2027 withholding card
  • FBR registration procedure — accompanied baggage and 60-day timing
  • SRO 50(I)/2019 — 10% fine on applicable irregular imports, read with the registration procedure

Tax rules were reviewed on 31 October 2026. They are editorially maintained, not pulled from an official live tax API. The calculation has not been reconciled to individual DIRBS assessments.

Why do tax amounts differ between websites?

Sites may use different customs values, exchange-rate dates, taxpayer status and fine assumptions. Some publish reported model-level quotes without a verifiable assessment. PakDevices calculates from the value shown beside each phone; the presets are dated manufacturer launch-price examples, not verified IMEI assessments. Customs may use a different value, so the final DIRBS payment slip can differ.

Basic customs duty is treated as exempt under Fifth Schedule smartphone entry 99. Additional customs duty is treated as exempt under SRO 1063(I)/2026, paragraph 3(iii). Sales tax includes regulatory duty in its base under section 2(46)(d). This explains why formulas that add a blanket 4% additional duty or use the bare device price produce different results.

How often do the numbers update?

Choose a model and press Calculate tax. The result then updates immediately when you change the route, taxpayer status, value or exchange rate. The website checks a daily USD/PKR feed using scheduled jobs or page visits. It retains the last valid rate if the feed is unavailable and shows the source date. The table uses that saved rate; editing the calculator’s rate does not change the table.

Currency data: Rates By Exchange Rate API. This is an indicative exchange rate, not a Pakistan Customs assessment rate. Manufacturer launch references stay dated and do not represent current retail prices or official customs values.

COMMON QUESTIONS

PTA tax calculator FAQs

Can I calculate PTA tax for iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo?

Yes. Select Apple, choose iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone Duo, then choose your registration route. Their presets use Apple’s dated US starting prices as reference inputs. They are not model-specific FBR assessments; enter the assessed value if you know it.

Does this calculator include Galaxy S26 and Pixel 11 models?

Yes. Samsung Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra, plus Google Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL and 11 Pro Fold, are included alongside earlier models. Search or filter the table to compare their reference estimates.

Is this the exact PTA tax for my phone?

No. It is a reference estimate. Customs may assess a different device value, exchange rate or registration treatment. Use the official IMEI checker and your DIRBS PSID for the payable amount.

Why can two models show the same estimate?

Tax follows the entered value and applicable slabs. Two presets with the same US launch price produce the same reference estimate. Their actual customs-assessed values can differ, so their official tax may differ too.

Can I estimate tax for a used iPhone or Samsung?

Yes. Choose “Any other phone” and enter the appropriate assessed USD value. Do not treat a new phone’s launch-price preset as the valuation for a used device.

Is passport registration always cheaper than CNIC?

The personal-baggage withholding exemption can lower the estimate, but eligibility depends on your actual travel and import circumstances. A passport by itself does not qualify. Check the official registration procedure before choosing this route.

Is PTA tax separate from the phone price?

Yes. This tool estimates registration-related duties and taxes. If a seller advertises a PTA-approved phone, verify the device’s status and whether registration is already included in the asking price.
