Check before you buy

Choose a compatible NVMe SSD

01

Check NVMe support first

An M.2 connector is not enough: the slot and firmware must support PCIe/NVMe storage. Check the exact laptop or motherboard manual.

02

Match the module dimensions

2280 means 22mm wide and 80mm long. Smaller devices may require 2230 or 2242 modules. Confirm mounting position and single- or double-sided clearance.

03

Choose the right PCIe generation

A newer-generation drive does not make an older slot faster. Supported connections negotiate the available link speed; device compatibility and boot support still need checking.

04

Allow for heat and workload

High-performance drives may need adequate cooling. Check heatsink clearance in laptops and compare sustained performance and endurance for large file workloads.

Common questions

Will a Gen 4 SSD work at Gen 4 speed in a Gen 3 slot?

No. In a compatible system the link is limited by the slower supported interface. Verify compatibility in the device and SSD specifications.

Is every M.2 SSD NVMe?

No. M.2 SATA drives also exist. Check the exact product interface and the host slot specification before ordering.

Why are two 1TB NVMe SSDs priced differently?

PCIe generation, controller, NAND, endurance, warranty and sustained performance differ. Compare exact SKUs and whether the seller offers local warranty.
