Used Phone and Tablet Inspection Checklist in Pakistan
Before buying a used phone or tablet in Pakistan, check the actual device, its cellular status where relevant, working condition and account handover. Agree an inspection with the seller before paying. For a remote purchase, get the checking and return arrangements in writing first; delivery does not automatically include permission to test before payment.
Use the mobile phone buying guide or tablet buying guide to shortlist devices. This checklist covers the inspection and handover; a model specification or IMEI result does not prove ownership, repair history or condition.
1. Match the device to the listing
Ask the seller to unlock the device and show its model number, storage capacity and software version. Compare these with the advertisement and receipt. Identify whether a tablet is Wi-Fi-only or cellular, and which SIM or eSIM options the exact variant supports.
Apple documents identifiers under Settings > General > About. Android menus vary; ask to see the device-information screen. Compare identifiers on the working device with any packaging and paperwork. A matching box alone is insufficient. Keep full serial numbers and IMEIs in your private purchase record rather than public posts.
2. Check cellular status through official PTA channels
For a cellular phone or tablet, obtain the IMEI from the device itself and check it through an official PTA channel before buying. Open the official DIRBS portal or PTA’s DVS app listing. Confirm the app publisher is Pakistan Telecommunication Authority – PTA. Its instructions describe entering or scanning the IMEI. Check every IMEI the device displays and follow the current official response.
If you cannot complete verification, pause the purchase. A seller’s screenshot or a successful call is not a substitute for your own official check. We have not queried or certified any device in this guide. A network-status check also does not establish lawful ownership or hardware condition; resolve identity discrepancies with the seller and official support.
3. Run a short hardware inspection
With permission, remove the case and use neutral test content. Do not browse the seller’s photos, messages or accounts. Apple’s preowned iPhone checklist covers practical camera, microphone, speaker, display and control checks. Use this record for the functions your particular phone or tablet actually has.
| Area | Try | Record |
|---|---|---|
| Display and touch | Adjust brightness; view light and dark images; draw or drag across the screen. | Lines, marks, flicker or missed touch areas. |
| Camera and sound | Test each available camera, focus, video, voice recording and playback. | Blur, distortion or missing sound. |
| Connections | Try Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, charging and your intended SIM where supported. | Which connection worked and any interruption. |
| Tablet accessories | Test any included keyboard or pen with this exact tablet. | Actual accessory model and working features. |
Carrier restrictions are a separate check. On an iPhone, Apple’s carrier-lock guidance explains the Carrier Lock field in About. Do not assume PTA status removes a carrier restriction.
4. Read battery and repair information carefully
View the battery information available on the device and record any service or verification message. Apple explains iPhone battery-health information; its iPad battery-health screen is available only on supported models. Do not assume every tablet has the same menu.
Check charging, then try ordinary tasks unplugged and record the workload, elapsed time and charge change. A quick demonstration cannot guarantee a day’s runtime. Ask about repairs and read any available iPhone Parts and Service History. Its scope depends on the model, and only the most recent service for a repeatedly serviced part is shown. An absent entry is not proof that a device has never been repaired. Pause if the casing is lifting or a battery appears swollen.
5. Complete account handover before payment
Agree any erase with the seller after they have backed up their data. The owner should enter their credentials privately.
- iPhone or iPad: follow Apple’s Activation Lock handover checks. The device must be erased and released from the previous owner’s account. Begin setup with an internet connection; if it asks for that owner’s Apple Account, return it to the seller to resolve. A Hello screen still requires setup before functional testing.
- Android: Google says removing the Google Account turns off device protection. Have the seller remove their accounts and complete the agreed reset, then demonstrate normal setup. If previous-account verification remains, pause; do not accept a promised later bypass or exchange passwords.
6. Record the sale and decide what remains unresolved
Write down the exact model and identifiers, seller contact, agreed amount, included charger and accessories, declared repairs and known faults. Specify any seller-provided checking period, return conditions, exclusions and who pays return costs. Keep the receipt and listing. Do not assume PakDevices supplies an inspection, warranty or return promise with every advertisement.
Proceed when the agreed checks and account handover are complete. Pause for unanswered identity, status or repair questions. Decline an unresolved owner lock or a refusal to demonstrate essential functions. Mark an untested function as untested. When comparing another device, reuse the record alongside the PakDevices marketplace rather than treating one successful check as a certificate for the whole device.
